An Early Kickoff to Freedom to Marry Week
February 4, 2008
Every year, fair-minded folks from coast to coast celebrate Freedom to Marry Week. 2008 marks the 11th Annual Freedom to Marry Week, Februarly 10th-16th. And as an early kickoff, on Friday the New York Appellate Court unanimously ruled that New York same-sex couples who married in Massachusetts or overseas should be treated as married under New York law.
This momentous decision is the first time that same-sex couples outside of Massachusetts can clearly, conclusively, and unequivocally expect full and equal treatment under the law. You go, New York!
For our part, MERI will be kicking off our legislative advocacy with a press conference on Wednesday, February 13th at 3:30 pm in the State House, where we’ll be introducing our 2008 legislation and issuing a community call to action. Hope you can come by and join us!
If you’ve got Freedom to Marry Week events, please let us know – comment here or drop us an email so we can promote them.
